Yeah! Running

The power of seeing women of all ages run together, we have experienced through Tjejmilen ever since 1984. Now the Marathon group is expanding the possibility for women in Stockholm to run together even during training. Training in Yeah!Running is free and is led by running coaches in three different speed groups from walking/jogging to running.

Yeah!Running is a runner group that welcomes all kinds of running girls, from the one who wants to start running to the one who already runs regularly. Here, all women get the exchange they need to build up their run against a goal of 1 mile, Tjejmilen on August 31. Three different speed groups (walking/jogging, jogging, running) meet on 13 occasions starting Tuesday, April 16. Each training starts from central locations in Stockholm with experienced supporting coaches.

– More and more women are running and has running as their primary form of training, and at the same time the proportion of women among those participating in exercise events increases. But running training also goes against becoming increasingly social and having training friends around them can be what is crucial for getting started with continuous training. With Yeah!Running, we want to be able to link our history and experience with the power and curiosity that is present in modern runner groups today. We hope and believe that this can be a concept that will eventually spread across the country, says David Fridell, Marketing Manager at the Marathon Group, who is the initiator of Yeah! Running.

Tjejmilen attracts thousands of girls every year and is Sweden’s largest girl event. Some run the race to put new personal best, others do it to run a mile for the first time. Yes, there are actually as many reasons as running women as to why the running shoes are laced on, something the Marathon group draws attention to in the campaign #jagspringerför that was launched in summer 2018. Yeah!Running has started to become a meeting place for running women during the year, a safe way to train together, get inspired by each other and learn more about running. The focus of the runner group is movement pleasure, the training is set up to focus on what is nice and good for the body without putting focus on keeping a certain speed. The goal is instead that it is training tips and energy the participants should bring with them from the meetings.

– It feels fun and important to get to coaching women to get started with their running and gain greater confidence when they are out running, says Terese Alvén, one of the running coaches in Yeah!Running. The fact that the movement joy is in focus during our training sessions instead of time baiting is fantastic. I think that more women dare to test the magic of running together in groups.
