Wines from Emrich Schönleber at Farangs Riesling

By on January 15, 2018

On Wednesday, wines from Emrich Schönleber are served at Farang’s bar.
Every wednesday there is a selection of amazing Riesling wines to get on a glass in the bar from 16:00.

Weingut Emrich-Schönleber is one of the most popular wine makers in Germany who has won many great prices, among other things:

Winemaker of the Year 2000 – Wein Gourmet
This year’s collection 2002 – Gault Millau 2004
Winery of the Year – Wine & Spirits 2005 (USA)
Winemaker of the Year in Germany 2004 – Gault Millau 2006
Winner of the “Riesling Cup” 2007 – Der Feinschmecke
Best Riesling, Vintage 2002 – Eichelmann 2013

Behind the Emrich-Schönleber wines is the Schönleber family and it is Werner Schönleber who built the winery in the 1960s. The family has a history of wine production when they cultivated grapes for 250 years and now they live on 14 hectares in Nahe, especially in the Grand Cru locations.

The wines we serve this Wednesday are:

2013 Halenberg Grosses Gewächs
2014 Monzinger Kabinett
2011 Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Spätlese

Halenberg is one of Germany’s best vineyards, and Emrich-Schönleber owns half of the 8 hectare vineyard. Halenberg is situated with stunning southeastern exposure and the vineyard consists of a blue slate which affects the depths of the wine in a fascinating way.

Frühlingsplätzchen is one of Northern Nahes best vineyards and Emrich-Schönleber owns 8 hectares of the total 20 hectare vineyard. The wines always have an impressive clarity and a finite minerality which comes from the high slate content.
