Oscar Wilde’s beloved comedy turns to opera

The summer of 2017 turns Oscar Wilde’s beloved comedy The Importance of Being Earnest to opera at Vadstena Castle. The composer and conductor B Tommy Andersson has in recent years enjoyed great international success with his expressive and virtuosic music. Librettist and director William Relton has as Englishman a strong relationship both Oscar Wilde and the play. Young talented singers meets court singer Ingrid Tobiasson in the role of the imposing and not so little fearsome Lady Bracknell.

Set designer and costume designer Marika Feinsilber and Anna Wemmert makes lighting design.

The Importance of Being Earnest is Vadstena Academy 36th commissioned works since its inception in 1964. The first performance will take place July 21, 2017 at Vadstena Castle. The production is also a period of study for young singers, musicians, technicians and administrators involved in akademien.The Importance of Being Earnest is sung in English and subtitled in Swedish and played through 9 August. Tickets go on sale April 1, 2017.
