Fotografiska instituting Stora Dokumentärfoto-priset

By on May 10, 2017

Since 2003, TT has meritfully handed out TT’s Stora Fotopris and TT’s Fotostipendium. When these now lays down, Fotografiska chooses to take over the rod and continue the important effort to support documentary photography with a price – Stora Dokumentärfoto-priset.

Documentary photography is in these times of “fake news” and disinformation more important than ever before. This genre, with all its possibilities for multiplying, illuminates what we call life. When so much happens in the world, angles are needed from many directions– documentary photography fills here undeniable an extremely important role.

– We instituting this award because it is extra important to pay attention to the documentary image, narrative has never been as important as in the time we live in now. Swedish documentary photography is outstanding and we hope to contribute with this price and encourage struggling talented photojournalists, says Per Broman, CEO of Fotografiska.

Fotografiska has since the start 2010 had a vision to contribute to put focus on photography as an expression. One way is to support young nordic photographers with the scholarship Young Nordic Photographer of The Year award on 100,000 SEK, which goes to a professional photographer at the beginning of the career and was awarded for the first time in 2014. Additionally, a mentor from another artistic discipline comes with the purpose of developing photography as an expression, as well as a separate exhibition on Fotografiska.

From 2018, will Fotografiska now, in TT’s fine spirit, also hand out Stora Dokumentärfoto-priset of 100,000 and the application will open later this year.
