DreamHack Masters comes to Stockholm

DreamHack Masters – DreamHack’s biggest contest oriented esport event with focus on the globally acclaimed game title Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – is now aiming at Stockholm and Ericsson Globe in 2018.
Together with Stockholm City and Stockholm Live, DreamHack can now reveal that Stockholm will act as host city for future DreamHack Masters events. DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018 begins with a group play on 29-31 August, followed by a playoff that takes place on Ericsson Globe 1-2 September.
DreamHack Masters was established in 2016 and has since then taken place on three different occasions. The events have left historical moments within the esport scene, such as the memory of the Swedish Ninjas in Pajama’s unlikely win at DreamHack Masters Malmö 2016. In Las Vegas the following year stood the veterans in Polish Virtus.pro as the final victories after a battle against the toughest starting field ever in game history.
Each DreamHack Masters event has had a format where the world’s 16 best teams competed for a prize pool of over two million. This will in future also be the platform for the competition when DreamHack with innovative work wants to remain one of the most viewed and independent races in the world.
Sweden and, in particular, Stockholm has a far-reaching tradition of esport and has over the years been a place where players gathered to train or make their first impression in professional contexts. Stockholm has since the esport’s early days been a home to new aspiring players, veterans and the absolute world elite who won the most prestigious championships.
– We are incredibly pleased to take DreamHack Masters to Stockholm. Stockholm is where we have our headquarters and Stockholm Live offers some of the best venues available worldwide. We will be very close to producing the best esport and event experience for both site visitors and viewers online, said Marcus Lindmark, CEO of DreamHack AB.
– We really look forward to the partnership with DreamHack and to host DreamHack Masters next year, which is a strategically important event for us in our desire to further develop the stage for esport events in Sweden, says Marie Lindqvist, CEO of Stockholm Live.
– It feels fun and natural that DreamHack chooses Stockholm as an event city. Stockholm is one of the world’s most important tech cities, and we have established ourselves as a prominent event city. We have a long tradition of esport, which we now continues to build on, says Karin Wanngård, Finance City Council, Stockholm City.
Ticket sales for DreamHack Masters Stockholm will open on February 28, 2018, at 10:00 CET via axs.com. More information about DreamHack Masters Stockholm will be released in the coming weeks.
