The artistic director of the Royal Swedish Ballet, Johannes Öhman, is joining ranks with choreographer Sasha Waltz as new director of the StaatsBallett in Berlin beginning summer of 2019 as his appointment as director in Stockholm runs out.

The StaatsBallett is one of Germany’s largest dance companies with almost 90 dancers and caters to three opera houses’ dance and ballet functions  – Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper and Komische Oper.

“The years as director of the Royal Swedish Ballet have been fantastic! The support of dancers, ballet administration, choreographers as well as audience, theatre management and CEO has paved the way for all our success over the last few years. I am very proud and exceedingly grateful for everything”, says Johannes.
