On February 17 opens the international hiking exhibition The 6th European Triennial of Contemporary Jewelery at Gustavsberg Konsthall, Värmdö, just outside Stockholm. The exhibition, which is still displayed in Belgium, presents works by 45 jewelry artists from Belgium, Sweden and France. The Triennale is a collaboration between the main organizer of the World Craft Council Belqique Francophone in Belgium, WCC-BF, and organizers in each country. WCC-BF’s Swedish partner is Konsthantverkscentrum.

– The exhibition is one of the most extensive we have presented at Gustavsbergs Konsthall. With a total of forty-five exhibitors from Belgium, Sweden and France, the Triennial is a unique opportunity for the audience to take part in contemporary world-class jewelery. The exhibition shows that jewelry art takes place in an international form scene, but also that Swedish jewelry art occupies a prominent position. I think we should be proud of that, says Maj Sandell, art director of Gustavsbergs Konsthall.

Contemporary art of art is an expansive art and knowledge area in which the distance between accessories and art objects has increased over the years. Today, jewelry art reflects many times social issues and social commitment, and several exhibitors artists express thoughts about sustainability, environmental issues and over-consumption. The different perspectives arouse dialogue – the jewelery touches, affects and perhaps even upsets. The exhibition includes portable jewelry, but also larger artistic items and films.

Jewelry is still a relatively unknown art form. It can be worn on the body and thus reaches out to viewers in the different rooms of society – it is exciting. Sometimes the item can not be worn, but it is always the jewelry as a phenomenon that is the center. I hope that many people take the opportunity and experience the exhibition at Gustavsbergs Konsthall, says Mari-Louise Franzén, business leader at Konsthantverkscentrum.
