Art Nouveau meets punk at Näsby Castle

At Näsby Castle in Täby a comprehensive but careful renovation has taken place. The castle has regained its beautiful colors and environments from the last turn of the century, while adding a rockier side. Here the artist has arranged countless parties, invitations, dinners and weddings over the years and the happy 20’s still sits in the walls.
Näsby Castle is also known as the castle of the party and the new 24 Hour Party interior design concept is punk meets Art Nouveau. A blend of the beautiful castle’s colorful Art Nouveau style and more modern rocky details. The concept is based on the fact that the castle lives around the clock – 24 Hour Party. Behind the concept stands Tengbom through Nadia Tolstoy, Katya Högberg and Sandra Wall.
– We wanted to strengthen the castle’s identity. We want the concept to stand out and have spiced the castle’s Art Nouveau style with a ounce punk. Inspired by the classic art nouveau artist Alfons Mucha and the fashion photographer Tim Walker’s cross-border photos. Art Nouveau meets modern rocky details. The vision was a backdrop that enhances the most romantic wedding, sparkling party and even the conference with the work in jeans, says Nadia Tolstoy and Katya Högberg at Tengbom.
– Our vision is to invite the world to the good of life. With Näsby Castle’s new design concept, we want to create our own story with the ambition to create a party castle and a meeting place that is anything but standard. We want Näsby Castle to be an obvious place for all the pleasures of life, a second office for meetings and conferences and a natural gathering place for an after work with friends or an outing with the family, says Torbjörn Blomqvist, owner of Stockholm Meeting Selection.
The work on Näsby Castle’s renovation and rebuilding began in autumn 2015. Investigations and program papers were initiated at Brunnberg & Forshed’s architectural office where Maria Mattsson works. Maria has been a commissioner and project manager. She has extensive experience in rebuilding and renovating Q-branded properties and has also worked with Jugend and Art Noveau in previous projects.
– I have worked in close cooperation with Ola Kolmert at Niam and antique Per Nelson to find a way to both lift the hard-worn, insensibly refurbished and partially completely deserted rooms in Näsby Castle to its former colorful splendor as when it was rebuilt after the fire at last century change. At the same time as the 100-year-old castle should now be adapted for a larger public pressure and thus accessibility, Maria Mattsson says at Brunnberg & Forshed.
