Wikipedian in residence to the World Cultural Museums

By on March 8, 2018

The World Culture Museums takes during the spring in a Wikipedian in Residence to get help with opening their global collections for the world. The investment is being carried out in collaboration with the non-profit association Wikimedia Sweden.

– This is a way for us at the World Culture Museums to ensure that our amazing collections reach a much larger audience, both nationally and internationally, says Johanna Berg, responsible for the World Culture Museums Digital.

Wikipedian in Residence at the World Culture Museums is Axel Pettersson, a long-term volunteer and for five years employed in Wikimedia Sweden, responsible for the work with GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Arrchives & Museums). His role is to prepare mass upload of photo collections, holding writing houses and support the World Cultural Museums in sharing material and expertise with the outside world.

– It is very exciting that the World Cultural Museums make this effort after many years of contributing with knowledge and images to a limited extent. This will give many articles a boost, both in terms of illustrations, content and source coverage, says Axel Pettersson.

Like the World Culture Museums, the former British Museum, the Riksantikvarieämbetet and the Music Agency have arranged Wikipedia’s residence.
