Konsthantverkarna 15/9 – 3/10 2018

For a few years, Konsthantverkarna have invested in wood material and invited wooden sculptors from Germany, France and England. This year we are pleased to present Kenji Komatsu from Japan. He is not completely unfamiliar with the Swedish audience when he participated in a Japanese group show in Alvesta, and later in 2013, attended at Carl Malmsten Center at Linköping University and Capellagården in Öland.

In the exhibition Komatsu will show, for example, small objects – houses in sizes from 2.5×6.5×5 cm to 9x4x7 cm. We will also see sketches and drawings that underlie sculptures. Behind each object lies a story. The starting point is people Komatsu meet and the shape and details carries track of the characters living there.

Kenji Komatsu was born in Komagane City in 1955 and now living in Toyama. In 2017, he established the Komatsu Arts and Crafts Studio after teaching and holding professions at Takaoka College of Art, Design and Regional Business and University of Toyama. He has performed many embellishments and exhibits since the mid-1980s.

2018 celebrates the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sweden. See more information at https://swedenjapan2018.se and http://www.se.emb-japan.go.jp/150.html

The exhibition is carried out thanks to support from the city of Stockholm, cultural management.
