Åsa Elmstam
What am I worth?, different materials
May 25 – June 12, 2019

What I am worth is an exhibition about the value of the handmade. What is an artisan’s time worth in comparison to your time working as a broker, electrician, book publisher or preschool teacher?

The price of many goods has fallen for a long time due to production in low-wage countries. We have become accustomed to cheap consumption of gadgets produced abroad. Things handmade in Sweden often have difficulty competing with this and are experienced expensive. At the transition we are facing, this is not sustainable – neither socially nor environmentally.

Åsa Elmstam has in this project worked with relatively cheap or found materials. She has made items where the manufacturing process is carefully timed. Each item has the title of how many hours and minutes it took for her to create it. It is up to you to decide if her working time has the same value as yours!
