Tensta Gospel Choir invites to Christmas concert at the Royal Opera. The choir will offer a mix of seasonal spirituals, trad gospel and modern gospel with jazz and funk influence. All to tones that convey messages of hope, consideration and strength in community. On the Royal Opera’s big scene on December 17th.

Ever since its start in 1996, the choir – which was created to work for integration between young people from different cultures – has gathered in Tenstakyrkan to experiment with gospel from different epochs. Tensta Gospel Choir is, according to the members themselves, “hot and cold, hard and soft, clean and dirty, strong and weak, raw and milled, bodily and spiritually.”

– For those who have not experienced Tensta Gospel Choir earlier, they can prepare for everything between joy and tears of sadness, says Tensta Gospels chorus master, Cedwin Sandanam, and continues: Gospel music covers the whole emotional palette, and we hope to be able to do it through our songs and stories. But no one is allowed to leave the salon without good courage, hope and inspiration.

– The Opera should be a place where people meet across all boundaries through the music. Tensta Gospel Choir is therefore an obvious artistic partner for us, says Birgitta Svendén, CEO and Opera Manager of the Royal Opera.
