The future’s technology in focus on Geek Girl Meetup 2017

Saturday the 13th of May, it is finally time for the network Geek Girl Meetup IF’s national event, at A-house in Stockholm. The national event is the highlight of the year for the association and for the ninth consecutive year hundreds of engaged geeks and women gather to explore, peppa and mingle together. The theme of the year is Geek Evolution, focusing on the future and new technology.

We move all the more quickly into the future and we constantly find new ways of living, experiencing the world and connecting with each other. With this year’s theme Geek Evolution, we focus on new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and robotics, and meet the women who create the conditions for our times geek evolution.

What once was science fiction is today our everyday life. With the theme Geek Evolution we get an opportunity to discuss the current role of technology and the potential of the future, said Sara Fritzon, chairman of Geek Girl Meetup IF.

A selection of this year’s speaker

Anita Sarkeesian: Canadian-American media critic, acclaimed for the videoblog Feminist Frequency and recognized for the debate about web hate and female hostility in popular culture.

Claudia Olsson: Future analyst, runs the company Exponential. Recently appointed “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum. Her lecture is about how exponential technology development affects our companies and our society.

Cecilia Beck-Friis: CEO and one of the founders of the VR company Rayvr. “From change to renewal”, about the journey from reconnaissance to a new company, about amazing user experiences created by virtual reality.

Anne Håkansson: AI researcher and lecturer at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). She will talk about what artificial intelligence means for the future, society and work.

Siduri Poli: tech expert and co-founder of the democratization initiative Changers Hub, helping young adults in the outskirts of Stockholm to realize their ideas. “That is how we create an inclusive future”
