By on May 4, 2017

The world-leading artists Kamasi Washington, Dianne Reeves, Hiromi Duet, Nate Smith + Kinfolk, Al Di Meola, Souljazz Orchestra, China Moses, Maria Schneider with Bohuslän Big Band and Swedish stars Lina Nyberg and Kaah are ready for this year’s Stockholm Jazz Festival. More artists will be presented in spring and summer. The tickets were released today at 09:00 and during the day is the festival’s new website stockholmjazz.se launched.

Today, the first acts will be presented  of the year’s festival on October 6-15 in Stockholm. Just like in six previous editions, this year’s festival is held on a variety of scenes around Stockholm, such as Kulturhuset, Fasching, Berwaldhallen, Vasateatern and Konserthuset. More concert venues will be added.

Amongst this year’s artists are the American saxophonist Kamasi Washington, Japanese pianist Hiromi, and Swedish Lina Nyberg.

We have as usually the ambition to invite an eclectic mix of the whole world’s varied jazz scene, says Eric Jathath, the director of the Stockholm Jazz Festival.

Kamasi Washington sold out Fasching long in advance when he last visited Stockholm. Last summer, he made a celebrated appearance on Way out West in Gothenburg and has like some other contemporary artists achieved great success both in the jazz and pop world. His triple album “The Epic” has been praised, as well as his involvement in Kendrick Lama’s groundbreaking hip hop album “To Pimp a Butterfly”. With his tight band, Kamasi Washington has played all over the world and is definitely one of the more sought after names in contemporary jazz.

Japanese pianist Hiromi also comes to Stockholm Jazz Festival. Together with the colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda she appears under the name of Hiromi Duet. Duon played for the first time at Blue Note in New York in July 2016, and then noticed that the audience became completely spellbound. They are both counted as some of the world’s premier instrumentalists on their respective instruments.

Lina Nyberg belongs to the cream of Swedish jazz. For more than twenty years, she has emerged more clearly as one of the most important singers and composers, and her live performances are loved by the audience.

Other artists already ready are Dianne Reeves, Al Di Meola, China Moses, Nate Smith’s Kinfolk, Souljazz Orchestra, Maria Schneider with Bohuslän Big Band and Kaah. The rest of the names of this year’s artists will be revealed later this spring and this summer. The entire festival program will be presented in August.

In conjunction with today’s ticket release is the new website stockholmjazz.se also launched, which is constantly updated with artist releases and other information.
