In connection to the exhibitionThe red thread – East meets West in the stitch and seam” will East Asian Museum to highlight the theme of textiles in the collections that World museums manages. It is picked up gems from World Museums’ magazine and various sewing traditions are explored in a workshop where they’ll try to embroider.

Textile Evening with a focus on Asian embroidered textiles. Lecture by textile specialist Anette Granlund from Bukowski. We bring forth Chinese garments, kimonos and Central Asian textiles from the collections. The evening ends with a conversation between Anette and World museums textile conservator Anna Javér and curator Petra Holmberg.

Welcome to a special screening where we focus on the importance of textiles and textile handicrafts and traces of this in our permanent exhibitions on China and Japan. We make impacts in the history of the Chinese Neolithic to the mid-1900s. Special display led by curator Petra Holmberg and educator Joachim Morath.

Workshop: East meets West in embroidery, stitching and stitches
Choose between Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at 11:30 to 16:30, 500 SEK / participant

East Asian Museum offers for the first time a one-day workshop in art embroidery. We look at the similarities and differences between the traditions of Asian and Swedish sewing. Come and embroidery inspired by Asian crafts. Material charges. Participants should ideally have a basic knowledge of embroidery, but beginners are also welcome!
