Summer with the Royal Opera: Open opera house, performances on the town and Myriads of worlds occupy the world!

Exclusive guest play by Unga på Operan’s Myriads of worlds in Hong Kong, concerts and shows in our historic opera house and performances on the town. It is some of the contents of the Royal Opera’s program for the summer. New for this year is participation in the festival Gränslandet on August 17 at Trädgården.

Exclusive guest play in Hong Kong
Young at the Opera’s set of Myriads of worlds occupy the world with a guest play at the International Arts Carnival, Hong Kong (14-20 / 7).

It is based on choreography, sound and space that choreographer Dalija Aćin Thelander created an all-art work where babies and their accompanying adults experience the performing arts from unexpected perspectives. Myriads of worlds were successful at the premiere 2017 and were nominated for the Swedish Theater Critics’ Association’s children’s and youth theater prize.

Summer in the Opera House
After just finishing the season with Dracula in front of a crowded salon, the summer will enter the Royal Opera with Summer concerts in the Royal foyer. The series starts on June 26 with the Stockholm Chamber Jazz. In total, there will be 27 concerts with everything from opera to jazz, classic to songs and musical. The concerts begin at 17:30, summer drinks are served from 17:00 in the Opera’s beautiful premises.

This summer we are inaugurating the exhibition Opera art – what is visible with a taste of scenography, costume and other art forms from the Opera’s history from the 18th century to the present. In the Opera House there is also the opportunity for guided tours where our guides tell about the Royal Opera’s soon 250-year history.

The opera on the town
On August 17, the Opera participates at both the Stockholm Culture Festival on Gustav Adolf’s square and in the festival Gränslandet on the Garden:

In the square, there will be a traditional Late Summer concert with tastings from the upcoming season’s program. Some of our leading soloists, Kungliga Operans choir and the Royal Court Chapel, under the direction of Anja Bihlmaier, participate. The concert is the final at the Stockholm Culture Festival.

Under the heading Gränslandet, we have moved our popular concept Children’s Parades to Trädgården under the Skanstull Bridge in Södermalm. It will be a music adventure, which is mainly aimed at families with children, with famous arias from the opera repertoire. Participants are soloists with the Opera University as a common denominator.

Saturday, August 24, 2019, the Royal Ballet invites you to a ballet in the green:
In the idyllic Vitaberg park, the Royal Ballet presents the second act of Giselle to music by Adolphe Adam. In the choreography of the legend, and the prima ballerina Natalia Makarova is given a performance that is adapted for the Park Theater. In connection with the performance there is the opportunity to get an insight into how the work goes behind the scenes.

The same day (24/8) starts the season in the opera house with the revival of Gioachino Rossini’s virtuously sparkling opera Cinderella.
