Christmas Day is consolidating its position as the year’s second biggest trading day. Bestsellers during the day were large televisions and white goods but also headphones that had hit seasonal December, and that customers bought at a rate equivalent to four headphones per minute during Christmas Day.

Christmas discount sales has become a tradition that is strongly associated with cheap consumer electronics at Elgiganten. From across the country reported queues of up to 200 people outside Elgiganten department stores and in many more customers chose to attend this year’s opening over last year.

It has become a tradition for many to go to our stores on Christmas Day and this year chose more customers to be in place already at the opening than last year. Customers are price-conscious and our products fill an increasingly important feature of Swedish households. Together, it is a very great interest in our sales when there is an opportunity to buy quality products at significantly lower prices. We saw it during Black Friday and we see it now, says Niclas Eriksson, CEO of Elgiganten.

Christmas discount sales is historically a period when customers take the opportunity to upgrade and improve the home for the entire family, and yesterday was no exception. Sellers were as expected, large televisions and appliances, which increased average prices shows that customers are increasingly choosing products with better specifications in the slightly higher price point. Dishwashers should be silent, the washing machines will take many kilograms of laundry and fridge freezer must have low energy consumption.

Yesterday’s sales rocket, however, was the headphones that had a success emphasized December and that customers bought at a rate equivalent to more than four headphones per minute.
