Storytelling workshop with the Saharawi artist Mohamed Suleiman

By on September 16, 2019

The first cup is strong like life, the second is sweet like love and the third is soft like death.

Mohamad Sulaiman is an artist, storyteller, and self-thought architect who have been living his whole life in the Western Saharan refugee camps in Algeria. With the Saharawi culture as a starting point and with the use of recycled waste, he has created a unique studio in the desert. And just as a tent could be dismantled and loaded on a camel in less than a day when it is time to return to a free and independent Western Sahara, so can his studio.

In connection with a visit to Sweden, where Mohamad takes part in a Global Bar discussion on art, resistance and creativity, we are also happy to organise a small workshop for those interested in learning more about the Saharawi culture.

Inspired by the Saharawi tea ceremony, Mohamad Sulaiman will guide us through a storytelling session/workshop in which each one of us will be able to share our stories.

The Saharawi drink tea in 3 rounds, each cup has a different taste and each taste has a different interpretation. The first cup is strong like life, the second is sweet like love and the third is soft like death.

Which one evokes your memories the most?

Storytelling workshop with the Saharawi artist Mohamed Suleiman will be held at Global Reporting Sweden Saturday 21 September 2019.
