Stockholm Culture Festival 2017

Taber player Zakir Hussain, one of India’s major cultural icons, makes his first ever Swedish play. In addition, Indian stand up with award-winning Papa CJ and crackling Bollywood music during the year’s theme India and Swedish pop queen Icona Pop takes place on the big stage. Stockholm Culture Festival is scheduled 15-20 August. Everything with free entrance!

600 program launches for 6 days. Stockholm’s cultural festival fills streets and squares with a myriad of cultural expressions 15-20 August. Zakir Hussain is considered a giant in world music in general and the classical Indian music in particular. On August 16, he takes place with his band Masters of Percussion at Gustav Adolf Square for their first Swedish play. The big scene also collects world stars like Youssou N’Dour and Sweden’s own electro-pop queen Icona Pop.

Skeppsbron hosts a whole series of Swedish and international artists such as Sara Parkmans Skog, Norwegian star shot Farida and dance Barmer Boys.

For the first time, Norrbro has evening opened for the first time during the Friday, where the Finnish circus Motosikai, among other things, takes place in the street, with a surprising, parodic and humorous show.

– This year’s festival will include a lot of party, entertainment and joy. We have a very strong program and are incredibly pleased to offer everything from exclusive play with Andreas Mattsson on the Skeppsbro stage to Lokofant building on Norrbro, Finnish club on the Dance Course and Papa CJ – India’s largest stand up artist with sold out performances in New York, London and Sydney, said Claes Karlsson, artistic director of the Culture Festival.

– Stockholm needs events like the Culture Festival and we will focus on just this type of arrangement that has a broad content for all Stockholmers to get to know the cultural life. This year we will let Gustav Adolf’s square be transformed into street festivities based on the different orientations of the evening with Indian, Swedish and African, to finish the Royal Opera’s full day with a club on the square, says Roger Mogert (S), city council and culture councilor.

Stockholm Culture Festival has a free entrance, lasting 15-20 August and offers something for all ages. This year’s festival theme is India!
