Stockholm City Bellman Prize winner 2017

By on June 7, 2017

The City of Stockholm City Council decided on 31 May to award the United Suburbs 2017 Bellman Prize. The prize money is 100,000 kronor.

Motivation of the jury

“A movement, a platform, a network. United Suburbs is based on grassroots level and exists because more and other stories will reach the public. And the shapes of the different stories take different forms: poetry, hip hop, stand-up, theater plays, short stories and movies. United Suburbs makes the city’s art and culture range richer with the many and different voices from all over Stockholm.”

The prize will be awarded at a ceremony in the City Hall on August 18 together with the city’s other cultural prizes. All prizes will be presented later that evening on the GAT stage in the Culture Festival.

– It’s extra fun that this year presenting the Bellman Prize laureates together with the newly-appointed jury, which has been assigned the task of proposing winners among the Stockholm’s all proposals to pay attention to and praise people who meant a lot for the city and its cultural life. Congratulations to United Suburbs, says Roger Mogert, kulturborgarråd in Stockholm City.
