Spectacular feathers of the World Cultural Museum

By on December 14, 2017

Starting February 10, 2018, feathers fill a large part of the World Cultural Museum in Gothenburg. In the Feathers exhibition we are taken with all over the world to places and people who have feathers adorn and enhance the wearer’s status – or just give color to existence.

Feathers fascinate – fragile, often colorful and beautiful to view. Birds and their feathers have always inspired people around the world. Those who carry them never go unnoticed, whether in Papua New Guinea or in Paris.

– The exhibition wants to give our visitors a truly sensible experience that highlights both the magic and the possibilities of feather material, says World Culture Museums superintendent Ann Follin.

Feathers – A world of feathers was originally produced by the Nationaal Museum van Wereldculturen in the Netherlands.

But it’s not entirely borrowed feathers. The World Culture Museum is suitable for displaying unique items from its own collection and has also borrowed a variety of birds from the Natural History Museum in Stockholm. Fashion icons like Jean Paul Gaultier and Lars Wallin participate with haute couture in spring. Exclusive design from the house Balmain is combined with exciting student work from the Textilhögskolan in Borås and the University of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. In addition, seductive feathers appear in the work of Tim Mårtenson, who is the Nordic region only plume maker.

Feathers- A world of feathers is available at the World Culture Museum in Gothenburg February 10 – August 26, 2018.

The exhibition then moves to Stockholm and the Ethnographic Museum, where it is displayed
September 29, 2018 – 3 March 2019.
