Malian superstar, Swedish soul queen and Somali discofunk pioneers to Selam Festival Stockholm 9-11 March!

This year’s edition Selam Festival Stockholm can proudly celebrate several internationally acclaimed musicians who will perform on several scenes in Stockholm during three days. This year, even half of the booked acts are women.

– This year will show the way for the future. The fact that Selam Festival Stockholm is an equal festival is of course a goal we have been fighting for and this year the festival brings forth female artists from Somalia, Ethiopia and Cuba, says the founder of Selam Teshome Wondimu.

Soul Queen Cherrie – last year’s winner of Grammis, P3 Gold and Manifesto in the class’s best soul/hip hop this year – launches this year’s festival with a club show at Fasching during Friday. Cherrie also opens for Somali discofunk pioneers Dur Dur Band International, who play in Sweden for the first time. The band also received great attention internationally when the record company Awesome tapes of Africa re-released one of their albums a few years ago.

During Saturday comes the Ethiopian reggae artist Sami Dan and pop hope Betty G, the latter who quickly won a large audience across the African continent, to Nalen. On Sundays, the entire festival in Concert Hall Stockholm ends with “Cubas new sound”, ”Eme Alfonso” and ”Africa’s golden voice”, maliske Afro-Pop legend Salif Keita.

– Like previous years, the festival will take place on several scenes in Stockholm’s inner city, but this year we want to make the festival more accessible, and a small part of the program will therefore play in the suburb, says Teshome Wondimu.

There belongs Ethiopian Circus Debre Berhans society’s conscious circus who, on Sunday, is making a appearance in Nya Rågsveds Folkets Hus. Read more about the program and buy a ticket via
