One night in the Swedish summer by Erland Josephson is about the recording of Andrej Tarkovsky’s last film, The victim, recorded on Gotland in 1985. It is a play about a meeting between Swedish actors and film workers, and a uncompromising Russian director. For direction stands Dramaten boss, Eirik Stubø. Premiere on August 25 at Elverket.

“When movie are not document it is dream. Therefore, Tarkovsky is the greatest of all. He moves with self-evidentity in the dreams’ room, he does not explain, what would he by the way explain? I’ve had my whole life hammered on the doors to the rooms where he moves so obviously,” writes Ingmar Bergman in the autobiography “Laterna Magica”.

In a tender-hearted and humorous way, One night in the Swedish summer depicts the meeting between the Russian director and the Swedish actors. While film workers waiting more and more impatiently in the Swedish summer night, their views on life, language and art are challenged.

Erland Josephson (1923-2012) was an actor, director and writer and director of Dramaten between 1966 and 1975. For over 50 years he was an actor on Dramatens stages. He collaborated with major directors like Ingmar Bergman, Andrej Tarkovsky and Peter Brook and won international recognition through his many film and theater roles. As a writer, he was especially acclaimed for his memorial portraits by Swedish and international actors and directors, and about his years as Dramatens director.

One night in Swedish summer, premiere August 25, Elverket. Part of the Bergman Festival.
