NHL RETURNS TO EUROPE AND SWEDEN!

By on March 29, 2019

In November 2017, Colorado Avalanche and Ottawa Senators met in two league games ahead of the sold out grandstand in the Ericsson Globe. In October 2018, the success was back when Edmonton Oilers met New Jersey Devils for a league match in a sold out Scandinavium in Gothenburg.

Now it is clear that the Swedish hockey fans get the chance to once again experience the world’s best hockey live, in Sweden.

The National Hockey League (NHL®) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) in collaboration with Live Nation Sweden announced that Buffalo Sabers, Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning are coming to Europe in 2019 NHL Global Series™.

Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers will play their opening matches for the 2019-20 NHL season against each other in Prague on Friday, October 4 at the O2 Arena.

Buffalo Sabers and Tampa Bay Lightning meet in two regular series games in the Ericsson Globe on Friday November 8 and Saturday November 9th.

In addition to this, Flyers and Blackhawks will finish their training camps in Switzerland and Germany, respectively, where they will play each show match as part of the 2019 NHL Global Series Challenge ™.

Tickets for the matches in Stockholm, Prague and Berlin was released on Wednesday 27 March, while the tickets for the match in Lausanne will be released on Wednesday, April 10.

2019 The NHL Global Series ™ means the third consecutive year, and the eighth season in total, that NHL has come to Europe for regular series games. These matches reward all dedicated NHL fans who follow NHL via the league’s international Broadcasting partners or via NHL’s streaming service NHL.TV ™. The three series matches next fall will be the 26th, 27th and 28th series games played in Europe, and the match in Prague will be the fifth league game to be played in the Czech Republic – all in the O2 Arena.

The two games in Stockholm between Buffalo and Tampa Bay will be the 12th and 13th series games played in Sweden, and the 11th and 12th played in the Ericsson Globe.
Before Chicago and Philadelphia’s premiere in Prague, they will finish their training camps in Europe and play each show as part of the 2019 NHL Global Series Challenge ™. Blackhawks go to Berlin and meet the Eisbären Berlin on Sunday 29 September at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Flyers travel to Lausanne in Switzerland and meet Lausanne HC on Monday September 30 in Vaudoise aréna.

2019 NHL Global Series ™ and 2019 NHL Global Series Challenge is organized by Live Nation Sweden with official partners adidas, NOCCO, SAP and Upper Deck. In addition, Replay and Tesla Batteries will act as partners for the match in Prague on October 4, a match that will be broadcast locally via Nova Action and Nova Sport 1.

In Sweden, Stockholm Live, Hankook and Expressen are partners for the matches between Buffalo and Tampa Bay, both of which are broadcast on TV6, Viasat Hockey and streamed on Viaplay. The match in Lausanne will be broadcast on Teleclub Zoom while the broadcast partner for the match in Berlin will be presented later.

NHL is a global league where more than 25% of players are born outside North America. All four clubs that play in Europe this year have many international stars where many come from the countries where the matches are played. Blackhawks forward Dominik Kahun is a German citizen born in the Czech Republic and will play both in Germany and the Czech Republic. Chicago’s David Kampf and Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek and Radko Gudas will all play in their homeland Czech Republic.

Buffalo Sabers Rasmus Dahlin, Johan Larsson, Alexander Nylander and Linus Ullmark, together with Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman and Anton Strålman all play at home when they come to Stockholm in November.
