New Scandinavian design at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair

On February 7 to 11, it is time for the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, the world’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian design. For the fair, buyers, architects, designers and journalists from more than 60 countries arrives. At the same time Stockholm Design Week with 80 design events will be held around the city of Stockholm.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair attracts about 40 000 visitors and of these, over 10 000 foreign. Around 700 companies, including 300 foreign exhibiting at Stockholm International Fairs 70,000 square meters. Altogether, about 80 percent of exhibiting companies are from the Scandinavian countries. At the fair, visitors encounter an informative and inspiring mix of new products, new materials, new knowledge, new trends, new business and contacts, along with new environmental and technical solutions.

Guest of Honour 2017 – Jaime Hayon
Every year, the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair invites a renowned international designer or design studio to design an installation at Stockholm International Fairs square. This time the mission has gone to the Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon, known for his playful expression and diverse production.

Design Bar 2017 – On everyone’s lips
The Design Bar, which is a mixture of an exhibit and top-notch restaurant, created this year by Note Design Studio. With the concept Sulla bocca di tutti, they want to give the guest a wonderful, inspiring and rich experience. For the menu is chef Isabella Morrone.

Trend exhibition 2017/18
Contrasts are the recurring theme and name of the Trend Exhibition 2017/18, which is signed by the stylist Lotta Agaton. It will be contrasts in materials and furniture as well as the surprising combinations.

The design studio Form Us With Love has been commissioned to design a concept for strategic development of the Greenhouse, in the exhibition hall for independent unestablished designers. Together with students from Bergh’s School of Communication, they have developed an activity that involves a mentoring going on for a year. Mentors 2017 is the designers Staffan Holm, Alexander Lervik, Anna Holmquist and Emma Olbers and Peter Torstensson, President, Mitab. In the hall is the hiking touring exhibition Young Swedish Design unveiled, run by the Swedish Design in cooperation with IKEA and Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

Welcome to Woodland
The exhibition presents a wide selection of inventive architecture in wood and discuss various aspects of wooden architecture and design. In Welcome to Woodland the work is illustrated in the form of short films presented in a “forest clearing” created by beautiful, rounded, curved banisters. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Swedish Association of Architects, the Swedish Institute, C & D Carpentry, White architects and Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks
Sustainability Thinking is the theme at the Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks, the fair’s own forum for knowledge and discussion within design and architecture. Among others Dorte Mandrup, Jaime Hayon, Werner Aisslinger, Universal Design Studios and Neri & Hu participate.

Editors’ Choice Award
Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair Award – Editors’ Choice, is organized for the second year in a row. The jury consists of editors from some of Europe’s most important design forums. The price includes three categories: Rising Star, Best Booth and Best product. 2017 year’s jury consists of Marcus Fairs, Dezeen; Robert Thiemann, Frame magazine; Chantal HAMAIDE, Intramuros and Costas Voyatzis, Yatzer. The winning statuette, is designed by the Swedish designer Lisa Hilland. The award ceremony takes place in Stockholm Design Talks scene Wednesday 8 February at. 15:00.

New this year – The Light Shop
In the pop-up shop, The Light Shop, visitors can buy a trendy table lamp or a beautiful bright trail. The sample consists of news for 2017 and in the shop you will also find a selection of products from Jaime Hayon, this year’s Guest of Honour.

Opening hours: Tuesday – Friday 9:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 17:00. Saturday, February 11, the public is also welcome.
