One of the world’s biggest equestrian races will be in Stockholm Stadium next summer. The International Competition Longines Global Champions Tour will gather the ultimate horse elite in Stockholm on June 13-16, 2019.

Stockholm will be one of the few selected metropolises that will gather the horse elite next five years starting in June 2019. For four days riders from all corners of the world will offer Stockholm and Sweden on equestrian sport on the famous stadium Stockholm Stadium. The Stockholm Stadium has over 100 years of history when it comes to equestrian sport events, and since then it has hosted OS 1912, OS 1956, and equestrian World Cup 1990.

The Longines Global Champions Tour has become famous for taking equestrian sports to some of the most spectacular places available – from the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Monte Carlo to Miami Beach. Now the election at the Stockholm Stadium fell to put a new modern gloss over a historic site.

The prestigious equestrian sport event consisting of both individual and team competitions will attract an international audience to the city and a large number of television and online broadcasters from around the world.

The event will be organized in close cooperation with the city of Stockholm – in line with the city’s goal of being an attractive venue with a wide range of events.

– Our goal is to continually attract major global events to Stockholm. There is a lot of horse interest in the Stockholm area, so it’s exciting to be able to present the Longines Global Champions Tour both for Stockholm and at the same time attract an international audience, says Karin Wanngård (S) Finance City Council Stockholm City.

Global Champions gives the city a new annual recurring event with a strong international brand. It strengthens the image of Stockholm as a sustainable event city internationally and also becomes an important addition to the city’s event mix, as equestrian sport events reach a wide audience of all ages and are popular with families. The equestrian sport is both broad and strong in the Stockholm region.

– The Stockholm Stadium provides an impressive setting, a historic wing and has also proved to be the best conditions for large events in recent years, says Johan Pagerup, CEO Sport & Events and responsible organizer.

In addition to the main competitions in the Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL, the Stockholm Horse Week concept will be developed to broaden, inspire and create a popular festival with the horse in focus. Already next year, a major investment in an international dressage competition and competitions for young riders up to 25 years in jumping and dressage will be carried out.

– An important goal with the Stockholm Horse Week is to create a platform and a range of more races to show the width of the equestrian sport, says Sara Johansson, competition leader.
