For eight years, Fabriken Ekerö has been the center for youth culture on Mälaröarna, with music studios and rehearsal, dance, gathering and concert venues. Now the business is closed because the premises will be demolished. On 2-3 June, a two-day closing party will be held with music and art.

On 2-3 June it is time for the Factory Shut Down Party, a closing party for a business that has enabled many Ekerö adolescents to practice and experience culture. Today, the factory’s 450 square meters contain a rehearsalroom, a dance hall, a music studio, a full-scale concert venue, a meeting room and a café space. The closing party offers hip-hop giants on stage, pop-up works of graffiti artists and much more.

– For two days we fill the area with music, graffiti art, DJs, foodtrucks and nice hanging! A perfect way to kick off the summer. We start at 14:00 on Saturday and finish at 18:00 on Sunday. Of course, it’s free entrance, says Robin Johansson, site manager at the Factory since 2016.

– It’s not possible to be anything but proud and happy over these eight years. The factory was started after an initiative by young people who the municipality took on and gave us at the Studiefrämjande in assignment to develop and operate. It has been a fantastic trip, says Johan Wallnäs, Area Manager at Studiefrämjandet. We have always known that the factory’s premises are being demolished in favor of housing, but now that’s a fact, it feels a little bit awkward. But the municipality of Ekerö is currently investigating how similar activities can be pursued in the future, so the future still looks bright for the cultural youths of Ekerö municipality.

– This is the last thing happening in the premises before the factory closes and will be demolished. That’s why it’s very exciting to get involved in this unique arts experience.
