Marika Carlsson gives in for the public press

Marika Carlsson has during the spring toured with the critically acclaimed performance “Jag är Gud”. Standing ovations and a huge audience pressure have made that Marika this fall gives three extra performances in Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm. The performance “Jag är Gud” has been directed by no less than popular actor Maria Lundqvist who makes a success with Shirley Valentine right now
The standup performance “Jag är Gud” is a performance honored by both audiences and critics. Where Marika with the bell of humor and warmth takes on her own Christian upbringing, questioning the double standards of religion and our secularized society. With a glimpse in her eye, she invites the audience to an unhappy and brutal mindset, where she tells about how to never lose faith and dare to think freely. With this performance, Marika not only wants to get the whole Sweden to laugh but also with a humorous touch raise important questions about our own beliefs in both religion and society.
“Religion sounds so boring, but I can promise you have an evening you will not forget at first and I promise a laugh guarantee”, says Marika Carlsson
Marika Carlsson has since childhood lived with a constant fear for God’s and the Church’s judgmental looks . Just a few years ago, she came out as a lesbian after she lived for 20 years in denial of her own sexual orientation. She was born in the fact that homosexuality was a sin, but one day she discovered that she was in love with a woman – how does that make sense? Who is entitled to decide how to live and who to love? Marika, a gay black woman in today’s society, has long been tampered with prejudice and discrimination. The inspiration behind this performance comes deep from the heart.
“Jag är Gud” extra performances this fall can be seen on the following dates and places:
Friday, October 13 Malmö – Palladium at 19:30
Friday October 27 Gothenburg – Draken at 19:30
Sunday, November 26, Stockholm – Rival at 18:00
