Local | Time for the obvious Christmas tradition in Stockholm: Christmas concert with folk music department at KMH!

By on December 10, 2015

On Saturday, December 12 you have to be in time for the Royal College of Music (KMH) Lidingövägen 12. When it is time for folk music department’s Christmas concert, which attracted a full house for almost 40 years!

Solo, ensembles and folk music of the big bands: KMH FOLK!
On the stage 35-40 teachers and students from KMH.

It really is a fantastic opportunity for all interested of folk music to come together, says the violinist Alva Granström, who goes on bachelor program. Now she participates for the third year in a Christmas concert.

One of the best features is usually to hear all first-year students play solo. Then really you hear the width and high-level, it is on the students already after one term.

But the Christmas concert is also an opportunity to try new things in front of packed houses. And it is also true Alva.

I have chosen to make my own song with Magdalena Eriksson (guitar), Stina Brandin (violin) and Peter Dillner (nyckelharpa). And then I for rarity, also sing a song with my own text.

The song is a cry and a longing for the snow, a description of the cold we are lacking and how the soil freezes, now that it no longer, because of warming, have their thick winter blanket. Even at home in Umeå feels winters not like before, continues Alva.

Alva, Magdalena and Stina also play together outside KMH as the trio North of Stockholm. But at the Christmas concert will Petrus bring a little extra winter glitterwith his nyckelharpa.

And this is only one of many elements for a memorable evening!
