Local | Sigtuna receives its first eco-labeled event

Since 2009, Destination Sigtuna worked strategically with sustainability to create change and share knowledge on issues related to climate, food and society. In Sigtuna Literature Festival is the words force, important social issues and social sustainability in focus. Before this year‘s edition of the Festival August 26 to 28 event is now undergoing environmental label Eco-labeled Event by the Keep Sweden Tidy.

Sigtuna Literature Festival has always taken up issues that connect to social sustainability. Freedom of expression, democracy and reading for young people is high on the agenda. Ahead of the fifth anniversary will Sigtuna Literature Festival also eco-labeled.

It feels natural to review Sigtuna Literature Festival’s climate impact and to reduce it. In Sigtuna we work to create a sustainable destination as work to label Sigtuna Literature Festival has been easy, but is nevertheless important. Together, we have developed new procedures that may be applicable also to future events throughout the municipality, says Camilla Zedendahl, CEO of Destination Sigtuna.

As part of the eco-label presents Literature Festival program items on the theme of sustainability and the environment. The food makers and the authors Sara Ask and Lisa Bjärbo talk about green and climate friendly food and during the festival is their vego dishes on the lunch menu.

One of the goals of Destination Sigtuna and Sigtuna hotel network sustainability work is to work with visitors and partners do both Sigtuna and Sweden to a better and cleaner place where everyone feels welcome. To obtain the eco-label from the Keep Sweden Tidy event has had to meet a number of criteria in eight different areas such as planning, purchasing, waste and litter, eco-products, food and beverages, transportation, energy and climate, and special initiatives.
