Local | Michael Kiwanuka back to Sweden

By on August 3, 2016

Michael Kiwanuka back to Sweden – playing on the Vasa Theatre in Stockholm in the autumn. Just a few days ago we saw him delivering utter brilliance on the Stockholm Music & Arts main stage. The new album Love & Hate – who last week reached number one on the UK Album Charts – lifted further in the live format is no doubt. Therefore, we areespecially pleased to announce that Michael Kiwanuka returns to Sweden in autumn, for a concert at the Vasa Theatre in Stockholm 7 November. Ticket release Thursday, August 4at 10:00.

Michael Kiwanuka has a voice that makes you suspect him of being Otis Redding and Bill Withers unknown son, if now such a thing would be medically possible. When the debut Home Again was released in 2012 raised a unison criticchoir their hands to heaven and praised a young, fresh British talent. Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys and Jack White from the White Stripesagreed and immediately invited Michael to collaborations.

When you close your eyes and just listen to his voice, it is easy to think that Michael Kiwanuka is a timeless artist who somehow always existed – but his career has actually just begun. New album Love & Hate was released just two weeks ago and has already been hailed as one of the strongest – something that last week’s first place at England’s album list not least was a receipt for.

The tranquility and resignation in his voice makes the music pretty scary”
Markus Larsson, Aftonbladet (4/5)

“With Burton as his accomplice, the singer has learned how to juxtapose contrasting textures andemotions for maximum impact, and it makes for one of the year’s most consistently engaginglistens.”
Chicago Tribune (10/10)

“The music makes space for him to ache
– NY Times (8/10)
