On March 21, at the beginning of spring and Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday, celebrated throughout Europe, the fourth edition of the European Day of Early Music. The event is under the patronage of UNESCO and the European Commission. Originally a Swedish initiative, the aim of the European Day of Early Music strengthen the awareness of and make available the diversity of the common historical heritage music. The celebration reaches a broad audience also through several of the events streamed live online.

In Stockholm offers SEMF this time on an afternoon of early music in public spaces at the Gallerian, on Hamngatan. From 17:00 is performed parts of J. S. Bach’s St John Passion with Sta Eugenia Vocal Ensemble and the Stockholm Bach Society under the direction of Ulf Samuelsson, every half hour until 19:40 pm. Totally free!

As tradition, the program and the tickets are released also on Monday at the 15th Stockholm Early Music Festival, which takes place June 2 to 6 in 2016. A star-studded anniversary festival opened with none other than the recently deceased Polar Prize winner Nicholas Harnoncourts own ensemble: Concentus Musicus Wien!
