By on June 22, 2016
In April 2017 arranged one exercise race in the new City Line tunnel. The race stretches over 8km and has space for 40 000 runners. The start is at Karolinska and the goal is at Medborgarplatsen in Södermalm.

– We are very pleased to get Trafikverkets confidence to organize this race in the city line. We look forward to offering an unforgettable experience for all who wish to run in this cool tunnel, says Tomas Hoszek, Secretary General of Lidingöloppet.

Lidingöloppet has by Trafikverket been able to use the City Line as an arena for the race Stockholm Tunnel Run – City Line. The race will be held in the paved service tunnel that runs parallel to the light rail tunnel, directly under central Stockholm and offers the runner on both steep climbs and long descents.

Stockholm Tunnel Run – City Line will be around 8 km long and has space for 40 000 runners. The race is scheduled for 1 April 2017 and those who are interested in running can already pre-book interest for the autumn opening of the start location sales in www.tunnelrun.se.

Participants get a nice tour above ground before the race goes on down in the 6 km long tunnel under central Stockholm. The goal will be located in the heart of Södermalm with a festive atmosphere.

– It’s great that people get the chance to run in the tunnel that we have built and are so proud of. This is the first and only time that a race is held here. When the City Line opens in summer 2017, the commuter train travelers do not even have to see the service tunnel from the train window, says Kjell-Åke Averstad, project director for Trafikverkets City Line project.
