By on December 10, 2017

The latest visit to Sweden for Katie Melua was on the sold out Filadelfiachurch in Stockholm in front of a very enthusiastic audience. Now this award-winning singer finally returns to Sweden, and this time she also has 23 members from Gori Women’s Choir on stage.

Katie goes out on a long European tour next autumn, which is premiered at Circus in Stockholm on October 24, 2018.

Katie Melua released her debut album “Call Off The Search” in 2003, an album that sold in almost 2 million copies. Since then, she has released another amazingly successful and acclaimed album, including 2013’s “Ketevan”, which is her birth name. Katie was born in the Georgian city of Kutaisi. She grew up in the coastal town of Batumi before moving to Belfast at the age of nine – today she is one of Britain’s most selling female artists throughout the ages.

Her latest album “In Winter” was released last year and is also a success and an album that is her most critically acclaimed in the career.

At this special concert, which reaches Stockholm in October, the award-winning singer joins the scene of 23 members in the Gori Women’s Choir. They are masters of the ancient Georgian tradition of polyphonic singing – when a person sings two tones simultaneously.

Katie Melua describes the choir as an “absolutely unique vocal orchestra”. The women’s choir was founded in 1970 at the Goris Music School, led by Teona Tsiramua. Georgia’s polyphonic song has been designated by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

When they come to Sweden next autumn, they performe together material from Katie’s latest album as well as a selection of classic songs from her previous catalog. We are incredibly happy to once again greet this unique and amazing singer and songwriter to Sweden – welcome Katie Melua!
