For the eighteenth year in a row, Stockholm Västerled Rotary Club arranges a jazz party at the prestigious Nalen in Stockholm. Thanks to the artists setting up free, generous sponsors, club members’ efforts and all participants, it is expected to be able to contribute significantly to Alvik Basket’s investment in children with functional variation.

– The party usually attract about 500 visitors, both Rotarians and other jazz friends, says Björn Kumlien, one of the enthusiasts behind the event. To that comes almost nineteen musicians, who set up for free.

Over the years, Rotarians have been able to contribute SEK 1.2 million to Fryshuset’s work, Lugna gatan, among others. Alvik Basket has in recent years received support in the work of integrating young people from other cultures through sport.

On the scenes in Nalen on January 28, spectators can experience both concert performances and dance music. The two scenes offer chances for more intimate stage performances in Harlem, or set up swing music in Count Basie and Duke Ellington’s spirit in the grand hall.

The orchestras are Swing That Music, Baseball And His Ten Doctors Of Syncopation, Jelly Babies Jazz Band and Nacka Big Band. New for this year is the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra and the Estrad Big Band.

– In the Harlem premises there is the connection to old times. There the bands joke between the songs, which recreates the nice atmosphere that existed in the Nalen in the 50s. I myself was then a teenager, and it is fun to relive it, says Björn Kumlien.

The jazz party is usually sold out, but there is still the chance for anyone who wants to experience another unforgettable evening at the Nalen. And at the same time contribute to a good purpose.

Don’t miss the jazz party at Nalen Monday 28th January 2019.
