Italian Dreams – installation of Beckmansalumni on the Nordic Gallery

By on February 11, 2017

Installation of ten previous form students when Nordic Gallery was reopened during Stockholm Design Week.

Retro-futuristic installation

The students graduated from Beckmans in 2016 and has now together created the retro futuristic installation Italian Dreams.

We wanted to create a contemporary expression with references to Italian classicism, futurism and kitsch. We have used materials such as fluorescent lamps and pvc, says designer Sara Sjöbäck.

The installation consists of eight large columns of light, DJ booth upstairs and light vault downstairs.

The re-launch of the Nordic Gallery opens with an exhibition with Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola and Italian Cassina. For the opening night had also Marcus Nyström, sophomore in visual communication at Beckmans, developed a facade projection and 3D mapping.

Beckmans alumni association

– For Beckman is collaborations with the world around a central part of education and now we are developing the project partnerships with our graduates alumnistudenter. The goal for the ten previous form students who worked on this installation is to exhibit in Milan during Design Week in April, says Annika Berner responsible from Beckmans and continue, that we had the confidence to do such an extensive artistic and creative design to the Nordic gallery relaunch indicates a good design environment.

It was last year that Beckman started an alumni association and has since developed the project together with students who recently graduated. In this project participated Benjamin Curtis, Elina Johansson, Isa Andersson, Matilda Beckman, Märta Hägglund, Sanna Gripner, Sara Sjöbäck, Tim Karlsson, Tina Eklund and Vera Panichewskaja.
