By on September 17, 2018

During July 2018, more than 1.7 million commercial guest nights were reached in Stockholm County. It’s a historical record. So many guest nights have never been measured for a month in Stockholm. Moreover, the share of international visits is greater than ever.

In July 2018, Stockholm had a high international growth rate of +12 percent. For the same month, Swedish guest nights increased by 4 percent. Overall, commercial guest nights increased by 7 percent during July month this year compared with the same month last year.

– More and more visitors choose Stockholm, which is positive as it means new jobs and strengthens Stockholm’s attractiveness in several respects. The range for Stockholmers is also enriched by the fact that Stockholm is holding high international standard and developed as a visiting destination, says Karin Wanngård (S), financial citizen council in Stockholm.

A recent survey shows that 8 out of 10 stockholmers are quite or very positive to visitors in the city. Visit Stockholm continuously works to maintain a sustainable visitor development.

For the European countries excluding the Nordic countries, the number of guest nights increased by +8 percent, most of the overnight stays stood the German market for (+ 18%). Even faster, guest nights for non-European countries grow, +14 percent. The United States is the market that accounted for most guest nights outside of Europe. Other long-term markets that are developing strongly is among others China (+ 8%) and India (+ 17%).

– Our strong international growth rate is evidence of Stockholm’s attraction as a visiting destination. We are looking forward to the strong results and we will continue to work in conjunction with the entire visitor industry to further enhance the potential of more visitors, says Caroline Strand, CEO of Visit Stockholm.
