Here are Sweden’s most affordable wines in 2017

The winners of Vinordic Wine Challenge 2017 are presented. Last May, prizes were announced in the prestigious competition in the new wine bar at the Stockholm hotel At Six.

Vinordic Wine Challenge is the wine competition that designates Sweden’s most affordable wines. While most other wine races are striving to put a quality stamp on the wine, Vinordic Wine Challenge focuses on the taste experience in relation to the price. Which wine gives the most value for the money?

The competition is determined by selecting a winner in each price range within their competition category. Then they proceed to a final where they are placed against each other, and from that point of view a gold, silver and bronze medalist in each class is choosen. This allows a single budget wine to claim a luxury collector’s wine.

Gunilla Hultgren Karell, a wine expert on the Mitt Kök magazine, was one of the wine tasters of this year’s Vinordic Wine Challenge edition.
– It’s with a horrified delight I’m taking part in the test. The competition takes several hours and you are completely out afterwards. It is not only mentally challenging but also physical when you get pain in the teeth of so much wine and acids, she says.

This year, 600 wines competed in two basic rounds and a final round. Over the years, the quality of the wines has increased.
– In the early years there was a greater variety of wines, some wines were really of to the woods. The quality has become much more even in recent years. That there are more wines that are good makes it more fun and challenging, says Gunilla.

The jury consisted of Susanne Berglund Krantz, Ulf Engelhardt, Jan Rosborn, Gunilla Hultgren Karell, Anders Röttorp, Magnus Waern, Claes Löfgren and Sofia Ander. The jury chairman is Bengt-Göran Kronstam.
