It is with proud Fotografiska opened application for Stora Dokumentärfotopriset 2018, which closes 28 February at 23.55.

Now, professional documentary photographers/image journalists in Sweden can apply for Stora Dokumentärfotopriset of SEK 100,000. A prize founded by Fotografiska in TT’s fine spirit. Since 2003, TT has meritfully distributed TT’s Big Photo Prize and TT Photo scholarship. When they were let down, Fotografiska chose to take over the fiery cross and continue the important effort to award documentary photography with a price – Stora Dokumentärfotopriset.

Fotografiska has since 2010 had as vision to help focus on photography as an expression. Documentary photography is in these times of “fake news” and desinformation more important than ever. This genre, with all its possibilities for multiplying, illuminates what we call life. When so much happens in the world, angles are needed in many ways – documentary photography fills an undeniable role here.

– We introduce this award because it is extra important to pay attention to the documentary image, narrative has never been as important as in the time we live in now. Swedish documentary photography is outstanding and we hope to contribute and encourage fierce image journalists, said Per Broman, CEO of Photographic.

Jury members are:

Magnus Wennman, Paul Hansen and Åsa Sjöström. All three documentary photographers exhibited at Fotografiska in 2017.

Marika Långström from TT.

Pauline Benthede and Per Broman from Fotografiska.

Footnote: Another way Photographic helps to focus on photography is to support young Nordic photographers with the Young Nordic Photographer of the Year (YNP) grant of SEK 100,000. The scholarship goes to a professional photographer at the beginning of its career and was awarded for the first time in 2014. In addition, a mentor from another artistic discipline comes with the purpose of developing photography as an expression, as well as a separate exhibition on Fotografiska. The scholarship recipient of the Young Nordic Photographer of the Year 2018 will be announced in January 2018.
