Fasching celebrates 40 years in Vitabergsparken!

In 1977, Föreningen Sveriges Jazzmusiker took over the contract at the discotheque Fasching at Kungsgatan 63, and the rest is, as it is usually called, history – jazz history. For 40 years, the Swedish and foreign jazz elites have played at the club, which over the years has earned reputation as one of the world’s premier scenes for contemporary jazz. Today Fasching is a most alive scene with 250 concerts and eighty thousand visitors a year. At the Park Theater we present a reflection of Fasching’s musical soul; Forward-looking modern jazz that takes art to new heights, but is still in tradition. We are giving you two evenings with some of Sweden’s absolutely greatest jazz names right now. Welcome to celebrate 40 with us in Vitabergsparken on 19 and 20 August!
The program in Vitabergsparken:
Malin Wättring Quartet & Bohuslän Big Band
August 19 at 6 pm – free entrance
Malins Wättring’s music has the roots in the Nordic jazz but has no limits for where it can go. It’s beautiful, timeless and free from locked and solid shapes. The traditional big band music is challenged by Wättring’s way of composing by opening up for new musical possibilities and giving the audience a whole new experience.
FIRE! Orchestra
19 August at 19.30 – free admission
Jazz, impro, contemporary art music, rock, pop, noise – FIRE! Orchestra offers the absolute best of music in all worlds. 20 musicians (!) from the cream of the Swedish creative music scene. Slowly, hard and beautiful in a uncompromising improvisation inferno.
Isabella Lundgren
August 20 at 6 pm – free entrance
In recent years, Isabella Lundgren has won the jazz audience’s hearts along with her band. In 2016 the group joined a new musical chapter with the record Where Is Home where Carl and Isabella wrote original music together. During the concert in Vitabergsparken we will hear the quartet with guests playing material from the last album – mixed with gold grains from Bob Dylan’s song treasure.
Goran Kajfeš Subtropic Arkestra
August 20 at 19.30 – free admission
Live is Subtropic Arkestra as a rushing steam-engine – unstoppable. The trumpet player, band leader and composer Goran Kajfeš has gathered the cream of the Swedish contemporary music scene in the project Subtropic Arkestra – a jazz collective that has been hailed by audiences and presses in recent years.
