Europe on the balance board when acclaimed Danish company visits the circus festival Cirkusmania

Acclaimed Danish company DON GNU visits the circus festival Cirkusmania in Stockholm in February. Europe is in imbalance and change. With the work Human in Balance, Don Gnu once again puts human meetings in focus in a Europe increasingly centered on states and their policies. Drama meets humor and singing meets dance and circus in acrobatic dance theater with a large balance board as stage.

Through the balance board, universal problems are given shape, where power and cooperation immediately become themes. Balance or imbalance, equality or inequality come to life through the movements of the actors and dancers over a scene that responds to their mutual relationships.

Don Gnu is one of Denmark’s most touring companies. They work at the intersection of dance, circus and physical theater. They present around 100 performances a year, both nationally and internationally. Performances created for a wide audience and characterized by humor, well-worked characters and live music.

Human in Balance was developed within the framework of the European Capital of Culture Aarhus and was nominated for the prestigious Reumert Prize 2017. The performance was developed in open rehearsals at a square in Pafos in Cyprus where the audience was invited to contribute ideas and suggestions.

The performance is part of CirkusMania, Stockholm’s new circus festival, which takes place on February 11-16, 2019, on scenes around the Stockholm region.
