Digital summer reading

Good to know during holiday periods: A library card at Stockholm City Library opens up the ports not only to our physical treasures around the city but also to the digital, which is completely unaffected by summer opening hours. Pick what you want when you want it, like a bundle of novels, magazines and all-know knowledge. Everything is free.

We are many who would like to have access to most of it in our smart phone or other connected device. The person who left the town, holiday breaks at home or at least has some free summer evenings finds a wealth of resources for avail and pleasure at the biblioteket.stockholm.se. Here is a selection.

E-books – reading to always bring along
Download your personal summer library on your mobile, tablet or computer. You will find successes like Störst av allt, by Malin Persson Giolito, international beads such as Nötskal by Ian McEwan and cultural as the Århundradets kärlekskrig of Ebba Witt-Brattström. Some titles are also available for listening, like streaming e-audio books.

Bibblix – reading pleasure for 6-12 year olds
The solution for those who suffer from boring books – here it’s easy to find the right one! In the Bibblix app, 6-12 year-olds at all reading levels receive customized book tips, both for download directly and for library loans. The books are easily found based on young readers own interests.

PressReader – Worldwide monitoring and entertainment
The international newspaper and magazine PressReader has a huge range. It is available free of charge via the biblioteket.stockholm.se or the PressReader app, which can be activated for a three-day period each time you visit the library. Everything you download in the app during the three days can then be read for three months. Update yourself with Svenska Dagbladet, The Guardian, Le Monde and Newsweek International, read the latest about design in Wallpaper, dream away with Res, find recipes in Clean Eating …

Alex Författarlexikon – when the top lists are not enough
Do you specifically want to read futuristic fantasy or focus on authors from the city of Huambo in Angola? Take advantage of Stockholm City Library’s subscription to the Alex Författarlexikon. It guarantees take you as far away from the mainstream as you wish. Search for genres, epochs, countries and prices easily – or test your skills with a literary quiz. Also available as app.

Landguiden – fast courses in world countries
Do you know the first sections of the travel guides, where it says about the country or city’s climate, history and social life? They are good, but Landguiden is better. There the International Political Institute collects information about the world’s countries in comprehensible pieces, constantly updated. Before you travel, you can see the latest news within the Cypriot policy, check out the languages in Belgium or prepare yourself for customs and use in Haiti.
