A more beautiful truth
I want to be different things at different times and sometimes all at the same time. At the intersection of what is and what is referred to is room for something more. I want to see both what it is and what it represents. Sometimes is the imitation good enough, sometimes it is the one that is the point. But above all it is potent and provocative, for it is all at the same time and yet neither.”

David Carlsson’s exhibition A more beautiful truth about authenticity and imitation, and how the boundaries between truth and imagination eventually dissolves. He works in the tension between the obvious, almost banal narrative and poetic ambiguity. Glazed tile and clinkers are materials that recur in his artistic work, preferably those which give the appearance of being of a different material. Store-bought plates are transformed and combined with ceramic sculptures to installations. With humor, love and irony ask they questions both about who we perceived as, who we are and who we want to be.

David Carlsson is educated at HDK – School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, where he earned a master’s degree in 2005. He divides his time as a lecturer in Ceramic Art at HDK with his work as a ceramicist and artist. He has exhibited in Sweden and abroad. 2015 David Carlsson showed a smaller work in Kaolins project room and it is with pleasure that we welcome him back in a larger size.

Welcome to vernissage on Saturday 7 January at. 11-16
