Conversation about “the white gaze”

By on November 15, 2017

On November 18, it is premier for Performance Lecture: Muslim Ban directed by America Vera-Zavala. After the premiere a conversation with the title The white gaze is held.

The French theorist Frantz Fanon describes in Black Skin, white masks from 1952 the white gaze as a westernization generalizing perspective on the outside world. In America Vera-Zavala’s performance lecture, Amanj Aziz and Carlito tell us how this reasoning becomes something that will characterize their everyday lives and paternity.

In a conversation after the premiere of Muslim Ban, we meet Ragia Abdullahi, Imran Ahmad, Iman Aldebe, Mohammad Fazlhashemi, Evin Ismail and Kashif Virk. Do they recognize themselves in the reasoning – or not? The moderator for the conversation is Nisha Besara.

The call will be available afterwards on

Performance Lecture: The Muslim Ban has been discussed in advance on leadership pages and in social media. Read an interview with America Vera-Zavala here:
