Antonio Sanchez and Migration at Fasching

By on January 11, 2019

He is one of his generation’s most prominent drummers, band leaders and composers, now Antonio Sanchez is up to date with a new album!

He was born in Mexico City in 1971, and began playing drums as a 5-year-old. Already in his early teens he was hired as a professional musician. Antonio later graduated as a pianist at the Mexico Conservatory before moving to Boston in 1993 to attend the Berklee College of Music.

In the late 90s, he (finally?!) ended up in New York and it wasn’t long before he was one of the most sought after drummers on the international jazz scene. He has played on over 100 albums and collaborated with heavy names such as Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Avishai Cohen, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, Gary Burton and Toots Thielmans. He is also Pat Methenys “drummer of choice”!

But Antonio Sanchez is also a driven solo artist. He has released several records in his own name. His first “Migration” was praised by All About Jazz as “one of the best new releases of 2007”. His third “New Life” got an incredible impact on the jazz press and won the German Echo Jazz Award 2014. For Fasching he comes with his own band and a new album in the luggage that will be released shortly!
