After construction boom comes art boom

Haninge municipality invests SEK 7.7 million in public art for 2018. It decided at the meeting on 14 December at the Culture and Recreation Board. This is in line with the principle that the municipality will invest in art corresponding to one per cent of municipal newbuildings.

– The one percent rule is an important principle for Haninge because it connects housing growth and culture. When new areas emerge, not only floors, ceilings and walls, but also artistic expressions are needed, said Mehmet Coksürer (MP), chairman of the Culture and Recreation Board.

Of the 7.7 million, SEK 1.1 million is dedicated to lighting art, which will increase the security of selected places in the municipality.

– It may sometimes be a little lag from being built until the art is in place, but we are always keeping our attention to the one percent rule, said Mehmet Coksürer (MP).
