A day to honor Vivica Bandlers

On February 18, arranges the Culture house City Theatre one afternoon to draw attention to legendary theater director Vivica Bandlers 100th birthday. Participants include Benny Fredriksson, Birgitta Ulfsson, Rikard Wolff, Anna Takanen and Lars Edström.

Vivica Bandler (1917-2004) was head of the Stockholm City Theatre during the years 1969 – 1979, a golden age for the then barely ten-year theater. She helped create the country’s most vital and famous theater, where she among other focused on the young generation as Suzanne Osten, Jan Bergqvist and Helge Skoog (with Buss på stan), and director Johan Bergenstråhle with epochal sets like Minns du den stad and The good man of Sezuan.

Audiences flocked to and several innovative performances enchanted critics and strengthened the position of the theater in the early 70s. Bandlers leadership was characterized by a strong desire for a Stockholm residents Theater where everyone is welcome – an idea that still permeates all activities at the Culture House City Theatre.

– All bosses after Vivica Bandler have seen it as a baton we have taken over, says Benny Fredriksson, CEO the Culture house City Theatre and theater manager years 2002-2013.

– Without comparison, she is the great idol for me. The uniqueness of Vivica Bandler was that she formulated the basic idea of the Stockholm City Theatre – making a keen theater both on, with and for the people of Stockholm. She was local but also international. Stockholm’s theater was also about the international.

Participants:

Lars Edström actor and former theater manager. He was union president in 1969 when Viveca Bandler became head of the Stockholm City Theatre and became her successor as a theater director from 1979 to 1992.

Benny Fredriksson is President of the the Culture House City Theater, and between the years 2002-2013 theater manager for the Stockholm City Theatre.

Anna Takanen is a director and actor. The years 2006-2015 were Anna Takanen Artistic director / vice president at the Gothenburg City Theatre, since 2015, she is theatrical performing arts director of the Culture House City Theatre.

Birgitta Ulfsson is director and actor. She worked together with Vivica Bandler for many years at the legendary Little Theatre in Helsinki. On the Culture House City Theatre she was seen most recently in A.R. Gurney’s Pulitzer-nominated play Love Letters.

Rikard Wolff has a series of acclaimed role interpretations behind him the Culture House City Theater, the latest in Karl Gerharden fantasi om en revykung , Den sista föreställningen and Dorian Grays porträtt.
